VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
At least one family member must volunteer at least one time per year. Below are the volunteer options to choose from. As the event you volunteered for gets closer, you will be reminded of your volunteer time and be given more information about your duties for that day.
a. Harvest Fair - Held toward the end of October. Volunteer times are usually from 8:30 - noon. Duties will be designated as the event gets closer.
b. Dr. Seuss' Birthday/Reading Month - This is a month long event held in March. This volunteer opportunity could include dressing up as the Cat in the Hat, reading to students, doing a project with students.
c. Dia De Los Ninos – Usually takes place April 29th. Volunteers will be asked to help with a variety of games, face painting, and activities.

FIELD TRIPS
Families will be notified in advance of any field trips requiring transportation, and will be asked to give written permission for their student’s participation in each event. Families are encouraged to purchase a St. John’s t-shirt for their student to wear on all field trips.
Because good behavior is so important on field trips for the safety of the teachers and the other students, students who have had a hard time following the rules at school the week before will not be allowed to attend the field trip.
If a student misbehaves while on a field trip, the Director will be notified and will pick the student up from the field trip. The family will be notified immediately. The student will not be allowed to go on the next scheduled field trip.

SPECIAL DAY
At the beginning of each month we will post the classroom calendar on our website as well as in the classroom. The calendar will outline the curriculum that the teachers will present to the class, as well as other special information such as days the school will be closed, field trips, etc. They will also show your students Special Day. He/she will carry the flag, be the line leader, and be the teacher’s special helper.
On this day, families are also welcome to bring a special snack for the class that you and your student have prepared or picked out together. We ask that this snack not be donuts, cookies, candy, etc. If you would like a list of snacks that may be appropriate, please talk with your students' teacher or reference the Snack Suggestion List on our website. Students may also bring a special book or picture on this day for show and tell.

SNACKS
Morning snacks are brought in by families on their students special day (designated on the classroom monthly calendar). We prefer this snack not to be “sugar filled” such as donuts and candy bars. A list of snack suggestions is located on our website. If a snack is not brought in, we will provide cereal or crackers, or any other healthy item we have on hand.
Afternoon snacks are given after nap time. These snacks usually include morning snack, if anything is left over, and anything left over from the students lunch. If a snack is not available, we will provide cereal or crackers, or any other healthy item we have on hand.

LUNCH
Students bring their lunch to school. Lunches may include items the child enjoys eating. We ask that you do not include any type of soda in your students lunch.
Lunches are not refrigerated. We suggest you pack an ice pack in your child’s lunch box to keep it cold.
Lunches may include anything that needs to be heated up. All classrooms have a microwave. We are able to heat up, but not able to cook food.
